In a historic football night where the Moroccan capital remained wide awake, the Atlas Lions successfully secured their ticket to the AFCON 2025 final. This came after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Nigeria (4–2), following a 0–0 draw at the end of regular and extra time, in a match described as an “early final.”
A High-Level Tactical Battle
National coach Walid Regragui entered the clash with an attacking lineup featuring Brahim Diaz and Abde Ezzalzouli, relying on home-ground advantage and crowd support to impose early pressure on the opponent. The Moroccan national team dominated the first half with over 60% possession. Brahim Diaz nearly opened the scoring in the 9th minute, if not for a decisive intervention by the Nigerian defense led by Calvin Bassey.
